Koubidou is a specialist dealer of Japanese antique art based in Izumo, Shimane, Japan, selling online since 2005. This page lists our current stock of shikishi and tanzaku — the small painting boards and slender poem strips, often edged in gold, that Japanese artists have used for centuries for quick and intimate work. A shikishi board is about 27 by 24 cm and a tanzaku strip about 36 by 6 cm, so both stand easily on a shelf or sit in a modest frame, and both travel well. Our stock ranges from Meiji, Taisho and Showa era painters such as Nishiyama Suisho, Sakakibara Shiho and Suga Tatehiko through to painters working in the San'in region, and covers seasonal flowers and birds, landscapes, figures and auspicious subjects.
