明治26年（1893）京都市に生まれる。名は清一。初号は呉月。父は日本画家の三宅呉暁で、その次男。
京都市立美術工芸学校絵画科を経て、大正4年（1915）に京都市立絵画専門学校を卒業し、同年、密栗会の結成に参加した。また陸軍に志願して入隊した。大正7年（1918）の第12回文展に《演習所見》で初入選し、大正14年（1925）の第6回帝展に《おはらめ》で再び入選する。この頃から凰白と号した。大正15年（1926）からは山元春挙に師事して早苗会に属し、以後も帝展に毎回のように入選を重ねた。同年の第1回聖徳太子奉讃美術展に《壬生狂言》、第2回に《思凡》で入選し、昭和5年（1930）の第11回帝展では《花旦》が特選となった。昭和11年（1936）の改組帝展・文展招待展、昭和12年（1937）からの新文展には無鑑査で出品した。昭和11年（1936）から昭和24年（1949）まで母校の京都市立絵画専門学校で助教授を務める。春挙の没後は早苗会の幹事となり、昭和18年（1943）に同会が解散すると耕人社の結成に理事として加わった。戦後は日展に依嘱出品し、《くさむら》《薪能》などを発表した。昭和25年（1950）からは光華女子短期大学でも教えた。
昭和32年（1957）京都市で没。享年65歳。

Miyake Kohaku (1893 – 1957)
Miyake Kohaku (1893–1957) was a Nihonga (Japanese-style) painter born in Kyoto, the second son of the painter Miyake Gogyo. After the Kyoto City School of Arts and Crafts, he graduated from the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting in 1915, helped found a painters' group and volunteered for the army. He first exhibited at the 12th Bunten (Ministry of Education Art Exhibition) in 1918 and at the 6th Teiten (Imperial Art Exhibition) in 1925, about when he adopted the name Kohaku. From 1926 he studied under Yamamoto Shunkyo and belonged to his Sanaekai (private painting school), exhibiting at the Teiten almost every year. He showed at the first two Prince Shotoku Art Exhibitions and won a special selection prize (tokusen) at the 11th Teiten in 1930. From 1936 he exhibited exempt from jury screening (mukansa) at the government exhibitions, including the Shin-Bunten (New Ministry of Education Art Exhibition) from 1937. From 1936 to 1949 he was an assistant professor at his alma mater. After Shunkyo's death he served as a manager of the Sanaekai, and when it dissolved in 1943 he became a director of its successor group. After the war he exhibited by invitation at the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), and from 1950 he also taught at Koka Women's Junior College.
