昭和27年（1952）7月、京都市上京区に生まれる。
京都精華大学の日本画科を卒業し、奥村厚一に師事する。創画会に所属し、京友禅の図案を手がける工房「香琳」を営むかたわら日本画を描いて、創画展に入選を重ねた。京展・京都日本画新人展・京都日本画美術展・川端龍子賞展・上野の森美術館絵画大賞展などにも出品し、平成2年（1990）の第7回東京セントラル美術館日本画大賞展で大賞を受けた。平成15年（2003）にスイス・ジュネーブで個展を開いてからは、欧州でも作品を発表している。芦屋画廊kyotoに所属する。かつては都会の風景などを描いたが、のちに自然の風景を主に取り上げ、穏やかでやさしい感性で描き出すようになる。平成22年（2010）からは、素粒子や宇宙を題材に、繭の糸・錫・金銀箔・岩絵具など素材の質感を生かした「創生」の連作にも取り組み、同年、大津アッセンブリーキリスト教会の天井画を描いた。平成28年（2016）には、工房で描きためた京友禅の図柄をぬり絵にした『四季を楽しむ 京友禅ぬりえ』（淡交社）を出している。京都市在住。

Miyamoto Masaharu
Miyamoto Masaharu (born 1952), a Nihonga (Japanese-style) painter, was born in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto. Miyamoto graduated in Nihonga from Kyoto Seika University and studied under Okumura Koichi. A member of the Soga Society, Miyamoto painted while running a studio for Kyoto yuzen textile designs, and was repeatedly selected for the Soga Society Exhibition. Miyamoto also exhibited at the Kyoten (Kyoto City Art Exhibition), the Kyoto Nihonga New Artists Exhibition, the Kyoto Nihonga Art Exhibition, the Kawabata Ryushi Prize Exhibition and the Ueno Royal Museum Grand Prize Exhibition, and won the grand prize at the 7th Tokyo Central Museum Nihonga Grand Prize Exhibition in 1990. After a 2003 solo exhibition in Geneva, Miyamoto exhibited across Europe. Miyamoto is represented by Ashiya Garo Kyoto.
Early works depicted city scenes; later the focus turned mainly to natural landscapes, painted with a calm and gentle sensibility. In 2010 Miyamoto began the Sosei (Genesis) series on elementary particles and the universe, using the textures of silk cocoon thread, tin, gold and silver leaf, and mineral pigments, and that year also painted a church ceiling in Otsu. In 2016 Miyamoto published a coloring book of Kyoto yuzen designs (Tankosha). Miyamoto is based in Kyoto.
